The workshop The absence of central coordination in deregulated electricity markets sets a new range of challenges to their organization and functioning. Although a lot of academic research has been done in the recent years on these topics, contributions and discussions tend to stay within a single field (economics, systems analysis, policy analysis...). This workshop aims at joining researchers of different fields to focus on the following issues, where coordination problems arise:

Investment and environment Transmission pricing and market power Risk coordination (Financials tools) Nordic researchers will present some issues of the first open multinational electricity market, but the emphasis of the workshop is on the coordination problem in a generic electricity market/network.

Another type of meeting This workshop is different because it will group researchers from different fields but working on a same topic. Its location, in Lapland, will allow a friendly atmosphere and many leisure activities after the sessions, giving a nice social context to continue discussions in afternoons and evenings. Cross-country and other skiing, sauna, walks in the forest are among the many possible activities offered in Lapland.

Saariselkä - Lapland Saariselkä is a Nordic resort center above the Arctic Circle. In late March, the weather is friendly, the snow abundant and days are already long. All types of snow and winter sports are at hand, and at the same time wild nature is open for discovery. The airport is located in Ivalo, near Saariselkä. Accommodation and activities will be located at the Tunturi Hotel.

Registration

Up to 30 participants can attend the workshop. The regristration fee is 1200 FIM, including the meals (from the dinner on Sunday, March 21 to the dinner on Wednesday, March, 24). If you want to register, please send an e-mail to Pierre-Olivier Pineau. A block of hotel rooms are held at the Tunturi Hotel, please contact us for your reservation.

Papers and edited volume

A copy of all papers will be made available for each participant. Publication of the papers in an edited volume will be considered if enough interest is shown.

The Systems Analysis Laboratory organizes this workshop in collaboration with the Nordic Energy Research Program. The Systems Analysis Laboratory is part of the Helsinki University of Technology.
